When she was 6, she won a surf contest using a run-down board which she discovered within a dumpster outside the house. She began her surf career when she was five and won the first surf contest at age 6. In the age of 7, she secured a sponsorship. The city she was born in was San Clemente, California. She took home the Triple Crown award for the Rookie of the Year in 2003. In addition, she won trophies which included two National Scholastic Surfing Association championships and the Professional Surfing Tour of America championship. Ashley won the Pipeline Women's Pro 2010 in Hawaii. Ashley was ranked at 59th position at the Women's Qualification Series 2014.
